Parliamentary Investment Committee to invest 3,000 tons of waste in energy generation

The Parliamentary Investment and Development Committee stressed today, Thursday, the importance of the project to convert waste into electrical energy, noting that Iraq has opened bids to invest waste in energy generation for the first time.

The head of the Parliamentary Investment and Development Committee, Hassan Al-Khafaji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Projects for converting waste into electrical energy are important and many countries in the Middle East are working on them, and the goal is to invest them instead of burning them without there being any benefit, in addition to the environmental pollution they cause.”.

He added, "Iraq has opened bids for the first time to invest waste to generate electrical energy by burning 3,000 tons per day and converting it into electrical energy amounting to more than 90 megawatts.".

Al-Khafaji added, “The Parliamentary Investment Committee is following up with the government on such important projects and encouraging it to work on them,” expressing his “hope for more projects in the coming period.”.
